On Saturday 3rd June, Country finalist for Independent Bookshop of the Year, Ullapool Bookshop, Quay Street, Ullapool, IV26 2UE, will mark its 20th birthday to the day, with a special birthday party on the afternoon of 3rd June. At 3pm, specially invited guests, former staff, authors, publishers, and customers will gather along with the present staff and the owners (Katrina and William Thomson), to toast the shop and to cut and distribute a specially commissioned locally made birthday cake. On Tuesday 3rd June 2003, the original house on Quay Street opened as Ullapool Bookshop, having been completely refurbished, and to join the other local businesses owned by Katrina and William, The Captain’s Cabin (opened by Katrina’s grandmother in 1946) and Lochbroom Hardware (opened by Katrina and William in 1991).

There will be a special bookshop birthday quiz on the afternoon, to guess the top 20 bestselling books of the previous 20 years, a glass of refreshments and also a chance to view some original photos of the shop before it opened in 2003.

Ullapool Bookshop hopes that many customers will pop in also to toast the past 20 years and to cheer the next 20 years here on Quay Street, providing books, maps, cards and stationery for many more years to come.
